Clark electrode

The Clark electrode is an electrode that measures oxygen on a catalytic platinum surface using the net reaction:

O2 + 4 e + 2 H2O → 4 OH

The Clark type electrode uses a silver/platnium-electrodes immersed in an electolyte solution. An oxygen-permeable membrane, which encloses the electrode, enables the measurement of oxygen exchange between the test sample and the electrolyte solution. As the potential increases, oxygen is reduced to hydrogen peroxide when electrons are donated to oxygen. The current flow is stoichiometrically related to the oxygen consumed at the electrode.

Vitamin D

The nutrient called Vitamin D is a group of fat-soluble prohormones. Exogenous Vitamin D undergoes two hydroxylation reactions to be activated in the body. The term vitamin D refers generally to all forms of Vitamin D, Vitamin D metabolites and Vitamin D analogues.

Vitamin D is a nutrient found in some foods that is needed for health and to maintain strong bones. Vitamin D does so by helping the body absorb calcium (one of bone’s main building blocks) from food and supplements. When we get too little vitamin D our bones may become soft, thin, and brittle, a condition known as Rickets in children and Osteomalacia in adults.

Vitamin D is important to the body in many other ways as well. Muscles need it to move, for example, nerves need it to carry messages between the brain and every body part, and the immune system needs vitamin D to fight off invading bacteria and viruses. Together with Calcium, Vitamin D also helps protect older adults from osteoporosis. Vitamin D is found in cells throughout the body.

  2. Present on most terrestrial animals (but they are not ill)
  3. Dangerous for Human Beings = Typhoid fever : 200 000 deaths/ yr (world wild).
  4. Lactose -
